These release notes include all relevant changes (improvements, documentation changes, fixes) that have been implemented since the previous release. The Brightlayer IM version 3.0 includes all feature that had been planned to be released in versions 2.0. There is no separate release of version 2.0.
Brightlayer Portal
Changes to last version
With the version 3.0 we introduce the “Brightlayer Industrial Machinery (BL IM) Portal”. The portal hosts several “services”. The first service that is available on the portal is the “Dashboard service”. The tool available in the dashboard services is an update of what has been released earlier as Brightlayer IM version 1.1.
The main elements of the Brightalyer IM Portal are:
Brightlayer IM user management:
The Brightlayer IM user management offers an easy to use tool for companies to manage their all their users themselves. Users can be added or removed and roles can be assigned to those users. For all future services that are planned to be published on Brightlayer IM this central user management will be used.
For each “service” specific user roles can be defined in the BL IM user management. These roles concede different access and handling rights to the user in the specific service. In the version 3.0 the only available service is the Dashboard service (formerly Brightlayer IM version 1.1). The available roles for this service are described in the user documentation https://portal.machinery-monitoring.com/docs/users-guide/portal/#user-roles-for-the-dashboard-group-service.
Brightlayer IM subscription management
A subscription in the Brightlayer IM portal is a virtual representation of a real company. The company is represented by an address and an ErP number. As soon as a company starts to subscribe to services with related charges, this data would be used for the billing process. Therefore the data would be double checked on correctness before services with related charges are opened to subscribers and their users.
Every user in the user management is also part of a subscription. Users may have different user rights within a subscription. Those user rights have to be assigned in the user management.
Brightlayer Dashboard
Changes in the Dashboard service (updates from Brightlayer IM version 1.1)
Singel Sign On
As of this version, the user’s first point of access with Brightlayer IM is the Brightlayer Portal. From the portal the user can access software services. The first service provided with Brightlayer IM 3.0 is the Dashboard service:
If the user has access to only one Dashboard service (this should be the normal use case) the Dashboard service – that is assigned to the user’s subscription – should open immediately after clicking on “Dashboard” in the left drawer. The Dashbaord Service would be available immediately without the need to log in again. (Attention: Due to the new Single Sign On process users of Brightlayer IM 1.1 would have to reset their password when logging in to Brightlayer IM 3.0 for the first time).
If the user has access to several Dashboard services (usually this would be the case for a Portal Admin user) he would get to a new window after clicking on “Dashboard”. This window shows tiles for every Dashboard service the user has access to. After clicking on the tile, the Dashboards service would open without the need to log in again.
Dashboard tiers
With this version it becomes possible to sign different Dashboard services for a subscription. The tiers are described in the user documentation. The different Dashboard services can be signed in the subscription management
Picture upload on start / group services
Up to this version, pictures could only be uploaded by Eaton admins. With version 3.0 all group users with the necessary user rights could upload pictures.
Data export
Up to this version, the export of data with the data explorer could only be done by Eaton admins. For all users with the necessary user rights the export of data using the data explorer has been enabled with this version.
Branding tool
For the “Flex” and “Flexplus” dashboard services it is possible to modify the look & feel of the Dashboard service and adapt it to the customers’ requirements. In version 3.0 the branding tool is now available for deployment by users with the necessary rights. From now onwards companies can modify the branding of their Dashboard service themselves.
Stream analytics implemented by Eaton admins
The “Flex” and “Flexplus” dashboard services also provide an outstanding analytics toolset that allows Eaton admins to implement analytics algorithms for customers. Those algorithms could be used for e.g. predictive maintenance, energy consumption optimization, etc.
Known Limitations
There are currently no known limitations to the available features of this software. In case you identify any malfunction please contact your local Eaton Service team.
