Eaton is partnering with Advantech to provide safe and reliable Cloud communication. The ICR-router series has been intensively tested and can be easily configured to work with Eaton’s Brightlayer platform. The routers can be configured in 2 different ways:
As a router to provide internet connection via the ethernet cable, via W-LAN (only routers with W-LAN extention) or via the LTE network.
As a gateway supporting Modbus to MQTT gateway functionality. By uploading additional software to the ICR-3231 this device can be equipped with a Node Red logic control and can provide additional fieldbus options (BACnet, OPC UA, EthernetIP)
In both configurations the routers can also work as an VPN endpoint for Eaton’s Remote Maintenance application.
With the protection class IP 20 the Gateway is intended to be installed in electrical cabinets to ensure protection against environmental damage. In case of a metal electrical cabinet it may be required to use separate antennas for Gateways with radio connection (LTE, WLAN).
From time to time Eaton / Advantech will release new versions of the Firmware and / or Software of the Gateways. These new versions may include patches to improve the cyber security of the Gateways. Eaton will update the Gateway support section of this page as soon as the new Firmware is available. The Gateways should not be operated with any other than the latest Firmware version.
